The summer season is one where we, as people of the earth, lose some of our focus, permitting ourselves to drift a little, the forces that move us dropping in intensity so that we become more in tune with the rhythms of nature and less concerned with the acts of survival. A time to revel in the bounties built in previous periods, relishing the long days, the warmth cascading from the sky and celebrating with kindred spirits.
The good burghers of Free-Spirit Records doing likewise this summer, traipsing the fields of Europe spreading their collectively accumulated enlightenment whilst gathering yet more exotic ingredients to throw into a pot that, due the energy generated within, bubbles away investing invigoration into all those who indulge in its heady brew.
From this pot now bursts White Light, a two-track EP collaboration between Journey and Liftshift which acts as a beacon for its time and an indicator of what is to come. For Journey is Free-Spirit Records’ progressive-psy, wizened ambassador and Lift Shift their newly appointed emissary. Between them they have managed to capture the essence all that I have touched on; the sweet vibes of the season, the communing with nature and the multitude of combinations that can be achieved in mixing elements from disparate entities with an end result that is both soothingly familiar and exhilaratingly fresh.
